Silicone oil usually refers to linear polysiloxane products that maintain liquid state at room temperature. It is generally colorless (or light yellow), tasteless, non-toxic and non-volatile liquid. Their molecular weight is not high and they are flowing at room temperature, so they are usually called silicone oil. It is generally not simply used, but made through special formula. It is often used as auxiliary material to produce a certain effect.
Generally speaking, there are 3 basic forms of silicone oil in the market: pure silicone oil, solution and emulsion.
nature
Pure silicone oil has very strong stability, heat resistance, frost resistance, good storage, high flash point and high ignition point, and there are few problems in storage and transportation.
In fact, it is often necessary to dilute the silicone oil solution. Sometimes it is desirable to add active auxiliary agents (catalysts, crosslinking agents, etc.) to the solution for storage and use. Aliphatic, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons can be used as solvents as needed. Other solvents can only be used under special circumstances. Generally, the concentration of polymer polysiloxane solution can only reach 35%, otherwise the viscosity is too large.
advantage
A large proportion of silicone oil or silicone oil products are made into emulsion form. Compared with solvent silicon oil, it has the advantages of low cost, non inflammable and harmless to health. Different from the solvent type, all silicone emulsions are "oil in water" heterogeneous systems. The external sealing phase is water phase, and silicone oil is dispersed in water in very small drops. It is easy to dilute the water to the desired concentration for application. The stability of the emulsion can be achieved by minimizing the droplet size and stabilizing the emulsifier.
application
Role of silicone oil in textile industry
Silicone oil can be used as fabric softener, lubricant, waterproof agent, finishing agent and so on in textile and garment industry. In order to meet the high-end demand of textiles, chemical product manufacturers are also constantly developing silicone oil that can be used in bath with various functional additives such as waterproof agent, flame retardant, antistatic agent and color fixing agent. In addition, in order to improve the performance of the fabric, there are also silicone products that can be used in the same bath with dyeing, silicone oil for cotton with cool feeling, silicone products that can improve the hand feel of the fabric, and silicone darkening agents that can give the fabric excellent darkening effect, good storage stability, no impact on color fastness and good hand feel. In addition to the functionalization of textiles as additives in textiles, silicone products will also be applied to other fields in textiles, such as the combination of silicone and polyurethane to form the coating of fabrics; Printing of fabrics formed by polymerization of silicone and acrylic acid; Organic silicon and organic fluorine are combined to form a waterproof coating on the surface of the fabric.
Silicone oil can be divided into primary products and secondary products according to its processing conditions.
The former refers to silicone oil products before processing, including hydroxyl silicone oil, silicon functional silicone oil, carbon functional silicone oil and inactive modified silicone oil. Among these four categories, the first two are traditionally called linear silicone oil, and the last two are called modified silicone oil.
The two silicone oil products refer to silicone oil as raw materials, thickeners, surfactants, solvents and additives, etc., which are processed by special processes, such as grease, emulsion and solution, such as silicone grease, silicon paste, defoamer, release agent and isolating agent.
