Photovoltaic silica gel is divided into single component glue and two-component glue, with different applications. Photovoltaic silica gel can be divided into single component silica gel and two-component silica gel. As the name suggests, the single component adhesive contains only one component. The main agent and curing agent are stored together. It is used directly during adhesive bonding and gradually solidified from the outside to the inside during curing. It is difficult to cure too thick adhesive layer. It is usually used for the bonding between aluminum frame and laminate and between junction box and laminate. The two-component adhesive is divided into two components a and B. before use, the two components a and B need to be mixed in proportion. During curing, the inside and outside are cured at the same time, which can cure a thick adhesive layer. In photovoltaic modules, it is generally used for potting of junction boxes.
Photovoltaic silica gel is mainly processed from basic polymers, fillers, curing agents, characteristic additives, etc., and the cost of raw materials accounts for more than 90%. The components of photovoltaic silica gel include basic polymer, filler, crosslinking agent, catalyst, coupling agent and curing accelerator. Preparation of one component silica gel: all components are fused into a finished product. First, the polymer and filler are mixed, dehydrated and cooled, then additives are added to mix and prepare glue, and finally the finished product can be obtained by filling. The water or other gases generated in the whole process are condensed and adsorbed with activated carbon. The two-component silica gel components a and B are prepared separately. When in use, the two components are mixed in proportion. Firstly, the polymer and filler are stirred and mixed, and then the component a can be obtained by screw degassing and filling. The preparation of component B is slightly more complex than that of component A. firstly, the polymer and filler are premixed, dehydrated and cooled, then additives are added to mix and prepare glue, and finally the finished product can be obtained by filling. Raw materials account for the vast majority of the production cost of photovoltaic silica gel. According to the announcement of Jitai Co., Ltd., in 2020, direct materials accounted for 92.7% of the production cost of silica gel and manufacturing expenses accounted for 4.9%.
Benefiting from the steady growth of downstream photovoltaic installation demand, the demand for photovoltaic silica gel will also continue to grow. Assuming that the global PV installed capacity will increase by 330gw in 2025, the volume ratio of PV module installation and production will be calculated according to 1:1.2, and the glue demand of single GW PV module will be 1050 tons in 2025, we expect the demand of PV silica gel to be 415800 tons and CAGR to be 17.30%.
There is less new capacity, and supply and demand is expected to remain tight. The working life of photovoltaic modules needs to be more than 25 years, and the working environment is relatively bad. Therefore, photovoltaic silica gel is required to have excellent mechanical properties, good bonding ability, yellowing resistance, damp heat resistance, ultraviolet resistance, etc. The production of photovoltaic silica gel is difficult. Foreign manufacturers include Dow Corning and loctite. Domestic manufacturers have made technological breakthroughs in recent years. Only a few companies in China, such as Beijing Tianshan, Huitian new material, Sibao technology, Jitai Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Zhijiang, have mass production capacity.
