Overall trading sentiment for bulk chemicals tends to be cautious, and most basic chemical raw materials fluctuate within a narrow range. Against this market backdrop, the inherent structural differentiation in the silica industry continues, accompanied by a notable new feature: widening logistics cost gaps between regions create obvious cross-regional price differentials. The original unified national circulation pricing model has been broken, prompting adjustments to procurement, warehousing and transfer strategies for upstream and downstream participants. Logistics freight, warehousing cycles and production base layout have gradually become key factors affecting silica transaction pricing. General precipitated silica has abundant overall supply and fierce regional circulation competition, with profits squeezed by raw material and freight costs on both sides. In contrast, high-end modified and fumed silica feature high added value, so freight accounts for a low proportion of total costs, resulting in relatively limited regional price gaps and firm market performance.

  From the supply side, production lines at major domestic silica producing areas operate generally steadily. By comparison, high-end modified silica and fumed silica command higher unit prices and smaller shipment volumes per batch, with logistics costs accounting for a low share of total expenses, so regional price differences are insignificant. Leading enterprises mostly operate shared warehouses across multiple locations to guarantee stable supply nationwide. Spot resources remain tight and quotations stay stable with rare deep discounts.

  In terms of upstream raw materials and comprehensive costs, prices of sodium silicate, sulfuric acid and various modification additives have fluctuated moderately recently. Changes in basic raw material costs exert limited impact on finished silica prices, while circulation costs including logistics fees, warehousing management charges and short-distance loading and unloading expenses account for an increasing share of total costs. Small and medium-sized manufacturers of general silica already face narrow profit margins and cannot absorb rising logistics expenditure, weakening their cross-regional competitiveness and forcing them to confine business to nearby short-distance customers. Large leading enterprises benefit from multi-base production layouts, self-owned warehousing networks and long-term cooperative fleets, enabling them to spread transportation and warehousing costs, flexibly allocate inventory across locations, and boast stronger risk resistance and broader market coverage. Meanwhile, continuously tightened policies on environmental protection and energy consumption raise investment in technical transformation for small and medium manufacturers, further squeezing profit margins. Industrial resources are accelerating concentration toward leading enterprises with advantages in production bases and warehousing layout.

  Downstream end-users have adjusted their procurement strategies accordingly, driving differentiated demand for various types of silica in different regions. Tire and rubber product factories are mainly located in East China and Shandong. These enterprises prioritize nearby silica supplies to cut procurement costs and delivery cycle fluctuations caused by long-distance transportation. Manufacturers of coatings and adhesives are relatively scattered. They formulate procurement plans by comprehensively comparing factory quotations, logistics timeliness and product stability. For high-end tracks such as new energy separator coating, high-end organosilicon and medical materials, enterprises pay more attention to stable product quality and batch consistency, are less sensitive to regional price gaps, and still purchase certified modified silica from designated suppliers instead of switching suppliers merely for lower prices. In addition, many downstream manufacturers begin to optimize safety stock of raw materials, rent shared warehouses in core consumption areas for advance stockpiling, and avoid supply interruption risks caused by logistics congestion and freight hikes in peak seasons, which further popularizes the warehousing and distribution model of silica.

  In foreign trade exports, port location advantages become prominent. Silica produced in coastal areas features shorter export delivery cycles and complete marine supporting facilities, giving it an edge in competing for export orders. Products from inland producing areas need long-distance land transportation to ports for export, resulting in higher comprehensive logistics costs and weakened competitiveness of export quotations. This year, overseas buyers pay attention not only to product performance, but also to delivery timeliness and supply chain stability. Domestic coastal manufacturers and traders with warehouses around ports have obvious advantages in undertaking overseas orders. Exports of high-end modified silica maintain steady growth. Overseas customers are less price-sensitive and attach greater importance to supply stability. Exports of ordinary precipitated silica are impacted by both freight and low-cost overseas competing products, with sluggish order growth.

  Industrial research institutions analyze that in the short run, the pattern of high-low differentiation and widening regional price gaps in the silica market will continue. Restrained by logistics costs and overcapacity, general precipitated silica will operate weakly, and price gaps between different producing areas will persist. Supported by high-end downstream industries, high-end modified and fumed silica will maintain firm market performance with small regional circulation price differences. Approaching the traditional chemical stocking season in September, logistics demand is likely to rise and freight rates are expected to go up. Upstream and downstream enterprises will advance plans for stockpiling and goods allocation, and the trend of local procurement will be further strengthened. In the medium and long term, logistics layout, warehousing network and multi-base production planning will become important soft competitiveness for silica enterprises. The competitiveness of the model relying solely on single-base production and long-distance external sales will keep declining, and optimization of industrial chain layout will become a new development direction of the industry.

  For participants across the industrial chain, downstream product enterprises can sort out compliant suppliers nearby, implement local procurement, optimize warehousing and stocking plans, and balance procurement costs and supply stability. Upstream manufacturers need to reasonably plan capacity layout, improve supporting warehousing and logistics facilities, build an inventory allocation system across multiple locations, adopt differentiated sales strategies for general and high-end products, and enhance comprehensive circulation competitiveness. Trading and distribution enterprises can build regional distribution warehouses relying on location advantages, focus on short-distance distribution and rapid spot delivery services, and tap market opportunities brought by regional distribution. In the long run, complete warehousing and logistics supporting facilities, flexible cross-regional inventory allocation capacity and stable product quality will jointly determine the long-term market share of enterprises, and the development trend of regional local circulation in the silica industry will continue to deepen.
