Unlike previous years when prices dropped to boost sales amid the off-season, the market boasts remarkable resilience this year. Prices of conventional precipitated silica edge slightly upward; high-end fumed silica holds firm at premium levels driven by rigid demand from new energy industries; low-end homogeneous products face mounting operational pressure. The industry has shifted its core competition logic from overall output expansion to refined segmented track competition.

  Upstream raw material prices fluctuate mildly overall, with regional variations stretching production cost ranges. Precipitated silica production mainly relies on sodium silicate and sulfuric acid, whose prices vary sharply across regions this month. Sustained capacity expansion and abundant supply of soda ash keep its price lingering at a low level, effectively offsetting mild cost hikes caused by rising quartz sand prices. Affected by summer environmental inspections and high-temperature production curbs, small and medium-sized sodium silicate manufacturers in East and South China have reduced operating rates, tightening local supply and lifting factory prices moderately. Domestic automobile production and sales pick up steadily alongside rising penetration of new energy vehicles, driving robust output growth of low rolling-resistance green tires. New energy vehicle tires require far higher white carbon black dosage, nearly 20% more than conventional fuel vehicle tires, continuously boosting consumption of high-dispersity precipitated silica. Nevertheless, amid the automobile consumption off-season, tire manufacturers adopt on-demand procurement and lean inventory strategies with little willingness for bulk stocking, failing to trigger a purchasing boom. Demand for traditional rubber goods including hoses, belts and footwear rubber remains sluggish, merely meeting daily rigid replenishment and exerting limited pulling power on the market.

Demand for high-purity impurity-free fumed silica has risen sharply year-on-year in lithium batteries and solid-state electronic packaging fields. In addition, demand stays steady and rising for construction sealants, industrial anti-corrosion coatings, ink matting agents and food anti-caking additives, with abundant orders for various modified special-grade white carbon black. Exports maintain robust momentum, with consistent purchasing demand from Southeast Asia for construction and rubber materials, as well as European orders for new energy supporting raw materials. Following the enforcement of EU carbon tariffs and tire energy efficiency regulations, overseas buyers show clear preference for environmentally compliant Chinese white carbon black, which effectively digests surplus domestic low-end capacity and stabilizes domestic spot prices. Many domestic manufacturers have begun building overseas production bases to bypass trade barriers and further expand export channels.

  Price gaps between different grades and specifications of white carbon black keep widening alongside increasingly obvious market stratification. The mainstream negotiated ex-factory price of general rubber-grade precipitated silica ranges from 5800 to 6200 CNY per ton; ultra-fine 1250-mesh high-activity precipitated silica for silicone rubber and premium sealants is priced between 8300 and 8600 CNY per ton; food and pharmaceutical high-purity grades undergo stringent production control with stable prices of 6400 to 6700 CNY per ton. The price hierarchy of fumed silica is even more distinct: conventional domestic Grade 200 fumed silica costs 20 to 23.5 CNY per kilogram; hydrophobic modified high-end grades range from 25 to 28 CNY per kilogram; ultra-high-purity specialty grades imported from Europe and the US are priced at 28 to 38.5 CNY per kilogram and remain in perennial shortage. Noticeable regional price disparities persist nationwide: Central China records a lower average factory price for general industrial white carbon black; South China sees moderate negotiated prices for rubber-grade products; Shandong Province boasts the most complete product portfolio, with cheap low-end powder and obvious premiums for high-end modified products. Traders allocate goods based on actual demand, and market transactions proceed in a rational and mild atmosphere.

  The implementation of new environmental regulations coupled with shifts in international trade policies has established low-carbon development and domestic substitution as the long-term core themes reshaping the industry landscape. The new clean production standards for silicon-based new materials have come into full effect, tightening thresholds for wastewater recycling and waste gas pollutant emissions. Backward inefficient capacities failing environmental assessments are being phased out rapidly, lifting industrial concentration and steadily expanding the market share of leading enterprises. The official launch of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism incorporates carbon emission accounting across the entire raw material chain, compelling domestic manufacturers to upgrade production processes. Rice husk-based bio-synthetic white carbon black and low-energy low-temperature synthesis technologies have gradually achieved mass production, granting green low-carbon products prominent export advantages. Frequent overseas anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations have accelerated the domestic substitution of high-end fumed silica. Currently, the self-sufficiency rate of domestic high-end fumed silica has risen markedly, with only ultra-high-purity specialty grades for semiconductor applications still relying on small-volume imports.

  Industrial research institutions have released forecasts for future market trends: from late August to early September, the market will sustain a mild upward trend, with conventional precipitated silica projected to rise by 100 to 300 CNY per ton. Supported by rigid new energy demand, prices of high-end fumed silica will remain firm with limited downside. Upon the arrival of September, the traditional peak season for rubber and coating industries kicks off. Coupled with pre-holiday stocking ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, concentrated downstream purchasing demand will push the overall white carbon black market into an upward cycle. In the long run, the era of vicious price competition has drawn to an end. Surface modification technology, customized formula development, low-carbon eco-friendly production and ultra-fine high-purity processing capabilities will determine corporate competitiveness. Leading enterprises will keep expanding their footprint leveraging strengths in capacity, technology, customer resources and cost control, while the survival space for small and medium enterprises relying on homogeneous low-end products will continue to shrink. The entire industry will forge ahead steadily toward refinement, high-end upgrading and green low-carbon development.
